Did you know that during the 2008 crash, it was illegal to short sell financial stocks? This was done by the government to strengthen confidence in the financial sector. Or at least to prevent its total collapse and destruction at the hands of unwashed, retail savages, who would no doubt destroy this infernal machine and build something less efficient in the chaos.
